1. Arrival & Check-In
We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before your scheduled start time. This allows time to check in, get settled, and take part in the welcome talk before entering the bird area.
Latecomers may not be able to join their session if it has already begun, and no refund will be issued in that case.
2. Welcome Talk — Mandatory
All visitors must attend and pay full attention to the welcome talk before proceeding to the birds area. This covers the do’s and don’ts for your safety, the welfare of the birds, and to make sure everyone has a great experience. This is not optional and forms part of the experience.
3. Children & Supervision
Children must be fully supervised by a responsible adult at all times throughout the entire visit.
School & Group Visits: Teachers and group leaders are responsible for the supervision and behaviour of all children or young people in their care. This responsibility rests with the accompanying adults at all times while on site. Mayfield staff will not assume supervisory responsibility for school groups or organised groups of minors.
To protect the welfare of our birds, we ask that all visitors — and particularly children — follow these simple rules:
- No running or shouting near the birds
- Do not attempt to touch or stroke the birds unless instructed to do so
- Do not kick, drag feet through, or disturb gravel paths near the birds
- Follow all guidance given during the welcome talk and by staff on the day
Sudden movements, loud noise, and unexpected contact can distress the birds significantly. Our staff reserve the right to ask any visitor to leave the bird area if these rules are not followed. No refund will be issued in this circumstance.
4. Right to Refuse Entry or Remove Visitors
Mayfield Birds of Prey & Wildlife Centre reserves the right to refuse entry to, or remove from the site, any visitor who:
- Fails to follow staff instructions
- Behaves in a manner that puts the birds, other visitors, or staff at risk
- Arrives in a condition that makes participation unsafe or unsuitable
No refund will be issued where removal is due to the visitor’s own conduct.
5. Animal Welfare
The welfare of our birds always comes first. On occasion, a bird may not be suitable for participation on a given day due to health, stress, or behavioural reasons. In such cases, Mayfield reserves the right to modify or substitute elements of the experience. This does not entitle the visitor to a refund, though we will always do our best to deliver a full and enjoyable visit.
6. Dogs
Dogs are not permitted on site. They cause significant stress to the birds and cannot be accommodated under any circumstances. We appreciate your understanding.
7. What to Wear & Bring
Hawk Walks and outdoor experiences take place on natural ground in all but the most extreme weather. We recommend:
- Sensible, closed-toe footwear
- Comfortable outdoor clothing appropriate for the weather
- A waterproof layer if rain is forecast
8. The Experience — What to Expect
Our experiences involve live birds of prey. As with all animals, their behaviour can vary from day to day.
- No two visits are exactly the same — bird behaviour and weather all play a part
- Group sizes are kept deliberately small to protect the welfare of the birds
- Hawk Walks take place outdoors on natural terrain
- The specific birds featured may vary depending on availability — we aim to maintain sufficient species on site to deliver a full experience at all times
This is a live animal experience. Calm, respectful behaviour is essential at all times.
9. Health, Medical Conditions & Allergies
If you or anyone in your group has a known allergy to birds, feathers, or animal dander, or has a medical condition that may affect your ability to take part, please let us know before your visit by contacting us at info@falconryinireland.com or +353 86 213 4367.
We will always try to accommodate you where possible, but we cannot be held responsible for reactions or incidents arising from undisclosed conditions.
After handling birds, we recommend washing hands thoroughly. Hand washing facilities are available on site.
10. Infants
Children aged 0–2 years are welcome free of charge and do not require a ticket.
11. Booking Accuracy
You are responsible for ensuring that all booking details provided — including names, group size, and contact information — are accurate at the time of booking. Errors in booking information do not entitle you to a refund or the right to reschedule.
